About the Scholarship

* indicates a required field.

The Fritz Janeba Travelling Scholarship was established through the generous gift of Katherine Janeba, who bequeathed the whole of her residuary estate to the University to endow 'The Fritz Janeba Travelling Scholarship' in memory of her late husband, Professor Frederick Alois 'Fritz' Janeba, a member of the University's faculty of Architecture, Planning and Building from 1949 to 1964.

The scholarship is available to the University of Melbourne's Master of Architecture (or pre-Melbourne Curriculum Bachelor of Architecture) alumni who either:

  • intend to pursue further professional study in the field of Design; or
  • are currently enrolled in a research higher degree within the faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning and will be undertaking a period of study or research abroad in the field of Design

The scholarship which has a tenure of one year, must be used by the successful candidate to assist in the pursuit of their studies in design at an overseas university or other academic institution. If granted the scholarship, candidates are required to submit evidence that the overseas university or academic institution, at which they propose to pursue their scholarship, has accepted their application or visit.

The candidate’s academic results shall not necessarily be the most important criterion. Applications will be considered in relation to innovative approaches to architecture and design.

The scholarship is intended to fund items such as tuition, travel and living costs for a maximum tenure of one year or 12 months. Shorter periods of travel will be considered with the selection panel favourably considering applications longer periods of study or research.

Incomplete applications and/or applications received after the closing date will not be considered.
